An unloading valve (or switch) is designed to cycle the machine (typically a compressor) when it reaches control pressure, by cutting off the air supply to the machine, so that there is no air being compressed.
A relief valve is placed on the outlet from the machine, or the inlet to the machine being supplied the compressed air (or hydraulics, for hydraulic systems) such that, if the machine over-pressures the system, the relief valve opens and dumps the excess pressure back to the inlet side of the machine, to a holding tank or some other receptacle. For air compressors it could dump air to atmosphere. As the pressure builds, the relief valve will open more and more to relieve the excess.
Safety valves should also be installed on outlets from compressors to immediately prevent the compressor from damaging the machine or system as a result of over-pressurizing it. Safeties open when relief valves can't control the over-pressure.
These three very different valves are not interchangeable.
pressure relief valve relief the excess pressure which is developed in the syatem, while pressure reducing valve reduces the pressure and supply it to the system.
They serve two different purposes. An air bleed valve is used to remove air from the circulation system. A pressure relief valve is designed to automatically open when certain pressure levels are reached.
the pressure relief valve start to open at a set pressure and que flow capacity and lift increase as increase the pressure in the system, usually the overpressure rise a 10% above the set pressure. In a Surge relief valve the valve open 100% when the system rise the set pressure and the accumulation on the system it is less than 2%, ussually that valves do not change the fluid direction to handle height flow capacity. That valves prevent a liquid hammer, the standard PSV did not.

A thermal relief valve is a liquid-only relief due to expansion of a liquid with increased temperature.A safety valve relieves pressure due to a gas.It should be noted that "safety valve" is a general term which could refer to Pressure Relief Valves (PRVs) or Pressure Safety Valves (PSVs), terms which are used synonymously in some industries (such as the petroleum industry) to refer to all relief devices in general.

The high oil pressure relief valve is located in the oil pump
Your pressure relief valve may be leaking due to high pressure in the system or a faulty valve. To fix it, you can try adjusting the pressure settings or replacing the valve if it is damaged.
pressure-relief valve
The relief valve is part of the oil pump.
To adjust the pressure relief valve, locate the adjustment screw on the valve and turn it clockwise to increase pressure or counterclockwise to decrease pressure. Be sure to consult the manufacturer's instructions for specific guidance on adjusting the valve.
Water may be dripping from the pressure relief valve due to excess pressure in the system, which causes the valve to release water to prevent damage or a potential explosion.
If your pressure relief valve is adjustable, you increase the pressure relief setting.
Converter relief valve ensures high line pressure does not flood/overrun the solenoid.
Yes, a leaking pressure relief valve can be dangerous as it may indicate a buildup of pressure that could lead to a potential explosion or other hazardous situations. It is important to address a leaking pressure relief valve promptly to prevent any safety risks.
Make enquiry's with the manufacturer of the compressor and get the max pressure rating. Then let the pressure in the tank build up to that level. If it does not open get a new valve
