If you are thinking like C3PO in Star Wars, the answer is zero. If you definition are machines that do work for humans in an automatic manner, the answer is many million. If you question is aimed at the industrial robots used in assembly lines then many thousands.

Sorry, but to get the answer you need, you really need to ask a more specific question.

Personally I have a few Roomba's that help with keeping the floors clean, a dish washer and clothes washer and dryer that all could be considered 'robots' in many definitions. Even the automation of the thermostat in a house to keep us comfortable would have been considered a 'robot brain'. If you use a DVR like a TIVO, it does help keep the 'drudgery' of having to program your video recorder with a timer to allow you to watch your favorite programs later, ... in many ways I consider that a 'robot'.

I know that is not the answer you thought you were asking for, but it is more accurate than most I have read.
