Any piping is only as strong as the joints....... Brass there are two main types used in Plumbing 1- Yellow Brass 60 % copper 40% zinc 2- Red Brass 85% copper 15% Zinc Copper is softer then brass and the wall thickness is thinner as it is tubing as compared to schedule 40 pipe BUT there use to be TP copper that was very capable of handling high pressures but the skill level to brase was lacking thus the codes had to dummy down the profession as a lot of folks were morons being passed through the school systems for the "feel good programs" by the Pelosi mentality left coast wackos

Why are the pins on a plug made of brass not copper?

because brass is generally tarnish resisant so it does not discolours easily and also because brass is not such expensive as copper <<>> The pins are make of brass because it is a harder metal than copper and will wear better through use over its lifetime.

Brass mimics copper or gold?

Gold, definitely. How about fixing this question as to what type of "brass" There is Yellow brass 60% Copper 40% Zinc and the more common red brass 85% copper and 15% Zinc then there is Muntz metal and Bronze thus BRASS = COPPER as there is NO gold content in "Brass"

Which year was brass invented?

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc; the proportions of zinc and copper can be varied to create a range of brasses with varying properties. Although forms of brass have been in use since prehistory, its true nature as a copper-zinc alloy was not understood until the post medieval period because the zinc vapor which reacted with copper to make brass was not recognized as a metal. The King James Bible makes many references to "brass". The Shakespearean English form of the word 'brass' can mean any bronze alloy, or copper, rather than the strict modern definition of brass. The earliest brasses may have been natural alloys made by smelting zinc-rich copper ores.

Which metal is used to make water pipes in houses?

Advantages of brass over copper?

It is NOT Better as RED Brass is 85% copper 15% Zinc and Yellow brass is 60% copper and 40% Zinc and over time the yellow brass becomes brittle because of dezincification. A piping system is only as strong as its weakest joint and BRASS is normally threaded thus the wall thickness is severly reduced, copper tubing Type K, L soldered or brazed are much stronger then threaded brass and Brazed brass piping is stronger but normally cost prohibitive to the average building owner. What is the difference between brass and aluminium?

Even though brass is a copper alloy, generally made up of about 95% copper and 5% zinc, copper is a softer metal. Copper has a higher heat capacity though, meaning than brass heats up more quickly than copper.

What is the alloy of copper and brass?

Brass is the alloy of copper and zinc.

is brass or copper cheaper?

Copper is cheaper than brass.

Is Brass copper a insulator?

Both brass and copper are conductors.

What is mixed with copper to make brass?

Brass is mainly an alloy of copper and zinc. Some alloys do have small amounts of arsenic added also.

Is sterling silver the best heat conductor out of copper sterling silver brass aluminum and silver?

No, sterling silver is an alloy containing copper to make the metal stronger. Thermal (and electrical) conductivity is highest to lowest as follows: Silver, sterling silver, copper, aluminum, then brass. The latter is an alloy of copper and zinc.

Is brass the same thing as copper?

Depends on what the usage is do you want YELLOW Brass 60% Copper 40% Zinc Or do you want RED BRASS? 85% Copper 15% Zinc

Is brass nonmetal or a copper?

Brass is an alloy made by combining copper with zinc. It is not a nonmetal; it is a metallic alloy.
