Most of the programming/development positions that I've worked in have been very stressful but they have their moments. Since the stress is often project based it tends to be cyclical and increases and decreases dependant upon where you are in the development cycle. Additionally the company you work for, their ability to effectively plan ahead and the general work ethics of those you work with can either greatly increase or diminish the amount of stress involved.
Overall though, I'd say yes, like fleas on a dog.
