The root-mean-square (RMS) voltage of an AC signal is equal to a DC signal of the same (peak) voltage. The voltage in your wall socket is 120V RMS. The true maximum value of the voltage (as measured on an oscilloscope) is about 30% higher, or ~170V. The equation for power (P = VI) holds for both AC and DC circuits. Thus, an AC device that draws 1 ampere at 120V RMS uses the same amount of power as a DC device that draws 1 ampere at 120V DC (120W).

You don't need a formula. All a.c. voltages and currents are expressed in r.m.s. values which are directly equivalent to d.c. voltages and currents. So, for example, 100 V a.c. is exactly equivalent to 100 V d.c., and, say, 20 A a.c. will do exactly the same amount of work as 20 A d.c.
