What is interrupt vector?

When a processor is interrupted to do a particular task,Program counter should be loaded with the the address of subroutine(task). If the processor automatically generates the address then it is known as vectored interrupt.for example if 8085 microprocessor is interrupted through RST 5.5 pin, then processor multiplies 5.5 by 8 and converts it to Hex address. If user has to provide address of subroutine using CALL instruction then it is known as non vectored interrupt

What is interrupt in c?

Interrupt handling is performed by the operating system kernel. In the Intel IA-32 platform, for instance, it is handled at Ring-Zero.C++ code does not normally run in the kernel. It runs in user space, such as in Ring-Three. Unless the operating system allows you to load C++ code in non pageable Ring-Zero space, you cannot write C++ programs to handle interrupts. Even if you could do so, all of the dependencies, such as libraries, would need to also be there, unless you wrote dispatch stubs to transition into and out of Ring-Zero non-pageable space. That said, you are looking for the Device Driver Kit, or DDK. (In the Windows platform.)

Explain Externally initiated signals and interrupt in 8085?

The 8085 Microprocessor has five interrupts signals that can be used to interrupt a program execution. They are:INTR-Interrupt Request (Input): This is used as a general -purpose interrupt.INTA-Interrupt Acknowledge (Output): This is used to acknowledge an interrupt.RST 7.5, RST 6.5, RST 5.5-Restart interrupts (Inputs): These are vectored interrupts that transfer the program controls to specify memory locations. There have higher priorities than the INTR interrupt. Among these three, the priority order is 7.5, 6.5 and 5.5.TRAP (Input): This is a non-mask able interrupt and has the highest priority. In addition to the interrupts, three pins - RESET, HOLD, and READY - accept the externally initiated signals as inputs. The HOLD signal indicates that a peripheral such as a DMA (Direct Memory Access) controller is requesting the use of the address and data buses. The READY signal is used to delay the microprocessor READ or WRITE cycles until a slow-responding peripheral is ready to send or accept data. When this signal goes low, the microprocessor waits for an integral number of clock cycles until it goes high. Lastly, when the RESET IN signal goes low, the program counter is set to zero, the buses are tri-stated, and the MPU is reset and the RESET OUT signal indicates that the MPU is being reset and used to reset other devices. To respond to the HOLD request, the 8085 Microprocessor has one signal, called HLDA (Hold Acknowledge). It acknowledges the HOLD request.

What is difference between vectored and non vectored interrupts?

Vector interrupt --> when processor directly call the respective isr when interrupt occurs so, address of respective isr is usually save in register. Non interrupt Vector --> In this case when interrupt occurs the processor calls a generic isr and in generic isr uaer has to call respective isr by checking status register.

Is INTR is a non vectored interrupt?

Yes and no. INTR response requires an opcode fetch sequence from the interrupting hardware device, often a CALL instruction, so there is no vector table in memory for it, because you can CALL any location. On the other hand, some implementations provide an RST instruction as the opcode, making it a vectored interrupt.

What is Non-interrupt vector?

If the interrupt is not assigned any predefined branching address to its ISR it is termed as non interrupt vector

VECTOR INTERRUPT If the interrupt is assigned to any predefined branching address to its ISR it is termed as vector interrupt. NON VECTOR INTERRUPT If the interrupt is not assigned to any predefined branching address to its ISR it is termed as non-vector interrupt. PRIYAKRISH

What does Microprocessor does when it encounters an non maskable interrupt?

Finishes the current executing instruction and then serves the interrupt.

IS Trap is non-maskable interrupt?

yes.

Is trap is maskable or nonmaskable?

The TRAP interrupt is non-maskable.

What is maskable in Intel 8085 microprocessore?

Four of the interrupts in the Intel 8085 (INTR, RST5.5, RST6.5, and RST7.5) are maskable, while one interrupt (TRAP) is non-maskable.The eight RSTx type of software "interrupts" are not really interrupts, but if they were treated as interrupts, they would be non-maskable.

What is type 2 interrupt?

Type-2 interrupt is called NMI (Non-maskable interrupt).May occur when 8086 receives a low to high transition on it's interrupt response.Could be used for handling critical situations like power failure detection.

What is The highest priority interrupt in 8085 microprocessor?

In most of the Intel processors, the highest priority interrupt is the NMI line (called TRAP in the 8085). NMI means a non-maskable interrupt, and that means it cannot be delayed or ignored. The NMI line is usually used when there are problems such as non-recoverable errors, but it could be used for debugging or profiling. Most of the Intel CPUs have 2 interrupt lines, the NMI line and the standard interrupt line. The regular interrupt line is connected to one or more interrupt controllers which split that interrupt signal to different devices. The NMI line is for the most critical processes in the computer.

What is a non-maskable?

A non-maskable interrupt is an interrupt that cannot be blocked, or masked, by the processor. In the 8085, TRAP is such an interrupt. If TRAP goes high and stays high, an interrupt vector sequence at address 24H will occur, and there is nothing the processor can do to prevent that. However, external hardware can accomplish the same thing. In a project that I designed, I needed a fourth single pin interrupt beyond RST5.5, RST6.5, and RST7.5, but I needed it to be maskable, so I built a flip flop in hardware that I could set or reset which would be AND'ed with the interrupt request to generate a maskable TRAP.
