Globals and statics are both allocated in static memory. Locals are allocated on the stack.
Primarily to a) determine the safe load of an engineered structure and b) to help design a structure given a particular load to be borne.
Statics deals with stationary objects(bridge). Dynamics deals with things in motion(cannonball). A Civil Engineer deals with statics a lot more. They design buildings, bridges, roads, ect.. to NOT MOVE. In fact, in Civil Engineering if something moves it is Failure! That is how failure is defined.. movement. A Mechanical Engineer deals with dynamics a lot more. They design machines, mechanisims, and things with moving parts. Like levers, pulleys, etc. They WANT things to move and design them accordingly. The study of Statics (objects at rest) and Dynamics (objects in motion) is the basis for much of engineering. Along with a class called strength of materials, which deals with the mechanics of the materials used in the machine, building, etc.
