Scientists sometimes accomplish great things.

As a scientist, you have the potential of advancing human knowledge, and possibly solving important problems which will benefit the human race significantly. If you are successful, you will be very well-respected by society, in general.

There is a chance that you will be able to invent things that will have great commercial value and will make you wealthy.

There is a chance of winning the Nobel Prize or other prizes which are also lucrative. Scientific work can be deeply satisfying.

The drawbacks would include the fact that success is not guaranteed, and your chosen line of research may prove to be unproductive. Your personal ability may not be up to the task; science often places extreme intellectual demands upon whose who pursue it. Just as not everybody is capable of becoming a professional football player, or a movie star, it is equally true that not everybody is capable of becoming a successful scientist.
