When the distance between two conductors is more than that of the diameter and the potential difference is increased beyond the certain limit in such a way so that a glow ( seems like violet and shine ) is produced around the conductor and also noise is produced. This kind of effect called the Corona Effect in power systems.
As the potential difference is increased, Corona Effect is also increased, and due to Corona Effect, Power loss in power system and disturbance in the nearer communication line is also increased.
Bcoz, corona effect is only possible in high voltage AC supply due to the frequency. That is, the frequency and the HT voltage causes the arc b/w 2 conductors.so , here the air is act as the arc transmitting medium.we called it as Corona. It is highly impossible in DC bcoz of no frequency.
Visual critical voltage in corona refers to the minimum voltage level at which corona discharge becomes visible around a conductor, typically in high-voltage systems. This phenomenon occurs when the electric field intensity near the conductor exceeds a certain threshold, causing ionization of the surrounding air and resulting in luminous plasma. The visual critical voltage is important for assessing the performance and insulation integrity of electrical equipment, as visible corona can indicate potential energy losses and degradation. Understanding this voltage helps engineers design systems that minimize corona effects and maintain efficiency.
When Corona Discharge occurs it forms ozone and nitrogen oxides. These combined with moisture to prduce nitric acid, which is destructive to most dielectrics and certain metallic compositions, resulting in corrosion. In addition, the high energy in some discharges results in mechanical, electrical, and thermal damage. SC
An effect of connecting a poor contact in an electrical circuit could be intermittent current flow.
At very high voltages, corona becomes an issue, such as in high power transmission. In effect, if there are any "sharp points", square corners, etc., electrons will tend to build up and this build up begins to damage the structure. this is why in very high voltage subs, you will see rings used instead of bolts or hooks (easiest to see at the top of poles).
Back corona refers to the phenomenon where ionization occurs in the air surrounding high-voltage electrical equipment, leading to the formation of a visible glow or discharge at the edges of conductors. This effect typically happens in conditions of high electric fields, causing air molecules to become ionized and create a conductive path. Back corona is often observed in high-voltage power lines and electrical insulators, and it can lead to energy loss and interfere with the performance of electrical systems. Proper design and insulation are essential to minimize this effect.

Short circuit corona in electrical systems can be prevented by ensuring proper insulation of wires, regular maintenance of equipment, and using surge protectors to prevent sudden voltage spikes. Additionally, following safety protocols and regulations, such as keeping electrical systems dry and free from dust, can help prevent short circuit corona.
corona effect
A guard ring is a conductive structure placed around a sensitive device or area in an integrated circuit to minimize the corona effect, which can lead to electrical breakdown and noise. By surrounding the main component with a guard ring, it helps to redistribute electric field lines, reducing the intensity of the electric field at the edges and thus lowering the likelihood of ionization and corona discharge. Additionally, the guard ring can help isolate the sensitive areas from external interference, enhancing the overall reliability and performance of the circuit.
A corona discharge is the ionization of the surrounding atmosphere after an electrical discharge. This can usually be seen as a glowing of a different color near high voltage conductor points.
Corona is a result of the ionization of a fluid around a conductor; when referring to electrical power lines, this is the ionization of the air around the conductor. At very high voltages (200kV and greater), this can become very significant, and can cause the deteriation of the conductor, or any conducting surface near the conductor, so special care is taken to mitigate it (such as using corona rings and bundled conductors). The ionization is a result of the buildup of electrons. Corona rings and bundled conductors provide a larger surface area for the electrons to "sit on".
no oil dos not effect an electrical connector
Due to corona effect virtually conductor size is increase and therefor resistance in transmission line is decreases.so I2R losses will decreases...
A: Transmission lines while there is ceramic insulators providing separation to the phases will have a corona if the insulators are dirty providing small current leakage ionizing the air around it therefore corona effect.
-it prevents conductor from electrical surges -it increases virtual diameter hence conductor can carry more current -corona discharge is used in photo copier and laser printers
