Spalling in a boiler reters to?

corrosion and erosion due to lack of heat transfer

What is Effect of corrosion on fatigue life?

Yes it will bring down the fatigue life and the material will not endure at any point. Degrading nature of fatigue loading on the materials is compounded by the corrosion interaction. Synergistic damage - The damage will be more than the addition of damages due to corrosion and fatigue loading. The formation of intrusion and extrusion due to fatigue loading leads to the notches. The corrosion media will enter the notches and forms oxide with the base metal and it will be passive to further corrosion. But the fatigue loading will disturb the passive layer and facilitate the media to corrode the fresh material. Hence it will drastically decrease the fatigue life of the material.

What are the main causes of corrosion occurrence in the refinery and how can they be prevented or dealt with?

Corrosion in refineries primarily occurs due to factors such as the presence of moisture, aggressive chemicals (like acids and sulfides), and high temperatures that accelerate corrosive processes. Preventive measures include implementing corrosion-resistant materials, applying protective coatings, and maintaining proper control of environmental conditions. Regular monitoring and inspections can help identify corrosion early, enabling timely maintenance or replacement. Additionally, using corrosion inhibitors in process fluids can mitigate corrosive effects.

Why does corrosion rate of no value on localized corrosion?

in my opinion, the value of corrosion rate obtained from certain reading is generally determine general corrosion rate, regardless what type of corrosion occur on a specific surface. in localized corrosion, where only some spots on surface is exposed to corrosion and other may be covered by film and etc. From my time of study, still didn't fine any research that can determine corrosion rate of localized corrosion unless u have a really micro- instrumentation that can monitor corrosion on the localized spots.. Define electrochemical corrosion?

Electrochemical corrosion is a process where metal deteriorates due to chemical reactions with its environment, typically involving the transfer of electrons between the metal and an electrolyte. This can result in the breakdown of the metal structure and the formation of corrosion products.

Is copper corrosion resistant?

Yes, copper is corrosion resistant due to its ability to form a protective layer of oxide on its surface, which helps prevent further corrosion.

Define different type of corrosion and explain electrochemical theory of corrosion.how will you protect corrosion?

Types of corrosion 1. Induced corrosion due to chloride 2. Pitting 3. Corrosion due to Oxidation 4.Corrosion is due to dissimilar materials 5. Corrosion due to imbalanced electrovalency In Electro-chemical theory, when two materials of different potential are in contact with each other through electrolyte, the two materials become, one is cathode and the other anode. The ions(electrons ) passes from anode deposited on cathode. Protection methods: 1.Metallurgical method 2.Corrosion inhibitors 3 Coatings like paintings, epoxy application etc 4. Cathodic protection 5 Galvanisation 6 Balancing of of electrovalency of materials or reducing impurity 7 use of sacrificial anode

What is oxygen corrosion?

Oxygen corrosion, also known as oxidation corrosion, is a process in which metal deteriorates due to exposure to oxygen in the environment. It is a common form of corrosion and can lead to structural weakening and eventual failure of the metal. Preventive measures such as protective coatings or using corrosion-resistant metals can help mitigate oxygen corrosion.

What mirror is used for oil immersion?

A high-quality microscope objective lens with a specialized coating is typically used for oil immersion microscopy. The lens is designed to work with a specific type of oil (usually immersion oil) to enhance resolution and numerical aperture by reducing light loss due to refraction. Oil immersion microscopy is commonly used for high-magnification studies requiring precise imaging, such as in medical or biological research.
