Depends on what you mean by "better".

For the same dimensions, a solid shaft will be a bit stronger, but also a lot heavier.

If you were to make a hollow shaft of the same weight, but a bigger diameter, it'd be a lot stronger than the solid shaft.

What are the advantages of using a hollow shaft in a power transmission system over a solid shaft?

Most of the force in a shaft is carried by the outer layers of the shaft, and very. very little by the center. By using a hollow shaft you get almost the same turning strength for a lot less weight and material.

What is stronger a round steel pipe or a steel hollow square bar?

By stronger, we need to define the loading conditions of the rod or pipe. The strength of a rod or pipe is typically evaluated with axial, transverse (bending), and torsion loads. With the same diameter and the same material, a solid rod is stronger than a hollow pipe. However, with the same weight and material, the hollow pipe is stronger than a solid rod. Because a hollow pipe is lighter than a solid rod at the same diameter, the hollow pipe would have a larger diameter in order to match weights with the solid rod and a larger diameter rod or pipe is stronger than a smaller diameter one.

How is a hollow cylinder stronger than a solid cylinder when both have the same mass and length?

if they are short or in tension they are the same, when they bend the hollow tube has a bigger second moment of area and so is stronger to any bending moment

What is solid slab?

A solid slab is either solid concrete foundation or a flat solid wood door as opposed to a hollow core or a panel door.

How do you calculate shaft power?

Shaft power P = (2(pi) * (angular Speed in rpm) * (Torque at shaft)/ 60 Torque of a solid shaft is given by (pi/16)* (Shear stress of material of shaft) * (Dia of shâft3).

What are the differences between a hollow shaft and a solid shaft?

A hollow shaft has a empty space inside, while a solid shaft is completely filled. Hollow shafts are lighter and can be more flexible, while solid shafts are stronger and stiffer. Hollow shafts are often used when weight is a concern, while solid shafts are used when strength is more important.

Why is hollow steel pipe stronger than solid steel?

For a given outer diameter, the solid shaft is stronger, but it weighs more. For a given weight, the hollow shaft is stronger because it has a bigger diameter.due to less weight & less bending moment..............the resultant bending moment for a solid pipe is much larger than for a hollow one because of their weight difference

Is a hollow part stronger than solid part?

Not usually, but it depends on the direction of stress involved.

What is hollow shaft?

A hollow shaft is a cylindrical structure that has a hollow interior, making it lighter than a solid shaft while maintaining similar strength and rigidity. These shafts are often used in applications where weight reduction is critical, such as in automotive and aerospace engineering. The hollow design allows for the passage of fluids or cables, and it can also provide better stress distribution under load. Hollow shafts can be made from various materials, including metals and composites, depending on the specific requirements of the application.
