Your feed rate depends on the pitch of the thread i.e. 16 TPI =a feed rate of .0625

To cut a double lead thread you need to either rotate the part 180 deg. for the

second thread or change the start point by pitch /2

1/16=.0625 .0625/2= .0312 so your second thread will start .0312 from the first thread.

What is meant by pitch measurement in lathe?

Pitch measurement refers to the distance from one thread to the next when threads are cut on a lathe. Different threads have different pitches and a lathe can be set to to cut to any specified pitch. This is achieved by selecting the pitch and engaging the lead screw on levers located on the headstock, then engaging the half-nut around the lead screw from the apron. With the correct threading tool inserted threads can be cut into the workpiece.

Different types of screw thread?

Screw threads can be categorized into various types based on their design and application, including external threads (on screws or bolts) and internal threads (in nuts or tapped holes). Common thread forms include the Unified Thread Standard (UTS), metric threads, and ACME threads, which are used for different mechanical applications. Other variations include left-handed threads, which tighten in the opposite direction, and square threads, often used in lead screws for linear motion. Each type serves specific purposes in engineering and manufacturing, ensuring optimal performance and compatibility in assembly.

Screw thread lead for .75-10 unified national course?

A .75-10 Unified National Coarse thread (3/4-10 UNC) has 10 threads per inch. The lead would be 1/10 of an inch.

How to cut double lead threads on an engine lathe?

To cut double lead threads on an engine lathe, first ensure your lathe is equipped with a suitable threading tool and that the lathe's gearing allows for double lead threading. Set the compound rest at a 29-degree angle for a 2-start thread. Use the threading dial to engage the feed at the appropriate point, making sure to adjust the spindle speed and feed rate for the desired thread pitch. As you cut, maintain consistent pressure and depth to achieve a clean thread finish.

Why feed rod is using in the engine lathe?

The feed rod transmits power from the headstock to the carriage for feeding operations. The lead screw transmits power from the headstock to the carriage for screw thread cutting operations. On some lesser types of lathes the feed rod and the lead screw are used for both the feed and the screw cutting power transmission.

Is a lead screw reversible?

presuming you mean the lead screw on a lathe, used when cutting threads on the workpiece, then the screw itself is obviously fixed, but the rotation of it may be able to be changed, depending on the lathe manufacturer.

Q.6) What is the function of chasing dial of lathe?

The chasing dial on a lathe is used to assist in producing threads without the need for a thread-cutting tool. It allows the operator to engage and disengage the lead screw at precise intervals to create threads on the workpiece.

Why square threads are used in a screw jack?

§ Screw threads have better compression strength than other threads. § Due to low thread angle there is no radial pressure on nut. § Due to smaller angle, the lead of screw is less.

Normally right hand threads BUT many times the cast iron female threads are corroded or damaged thus one uses a fits all plug which is lead and tapped into place not threaded
