There's a plug above and behind (If you're looking in from the drivers side) the CV. It's easiest to get to if you take of the airbox and use a funnel with a long hose.
Gear oil (80W90 or similar) is used in the transfer case and differentials.

It could be the reflection off of metal shavings that have worn off the gears.
To remove helical gears from a shaft, first ensure the assembly is properly supported and secured. If the gear is fixed with a key, remove the key using a suitable tool. Then, use a gear puller to apply even pressure and gently extract the gear from the shaft. If the gear is stubborn, heating the gear or applying penetrating oil may help ease its removal.

Three speed automatic doesnt take gear oil. It takes dexron type 2 automatic fluid.

The Manual stated the approx fluid capacity is 1.9 liters (2 quarts). They recommended using MT oil # 12345349 or equivalent, it was suggested to me this is to be 5W motor oil, not gear oil.
