It was important becuase it made it easier for farmers to farm. The tools that were lately invented helped the farmers alot such as the steel plaws.
The American Steel Industry
John Deere is reported to be the first person to produce steel ploughs in the US in 1837. These were much stronger than the iron ploughs that had been used for hundreds of years.
The steel plow, invented by John Deere in 1837, was designed to efficiently break up tough, sticky soil in the American Midwest. Its sharp, durable steel blade allowed farmers to cultivate land more effectively than with traditional wooden plows, which often became clogged. This innovation significantly improved agricultural productivity by enabling the cultivation of previously unworkable land, thus facilitating the expansion of farming in the region.
Prior to the Steel (or iron) Plow, plows were made of wood. If you hit a buried rock, or even a large root, you could break the plow's blade. Thomas Jefferson was the first to work out the exact proper angle of the mouldboard of a plow, (the curved part of the plow that turns the soil) Charles Newbold acquired a patent in 1797 for the first cast iron plow. David Peacock followed in 1807 with a couple similar designs that resulted in a successful patent infringement suit by Newbold against him. Blacksmith Jethro Wood acquired patents for two (three-part) cast iron plows in 1814 and 1819 that revolutionized the industry, making interchangeable parts a reality. The first self-polishing steel plow, the Grasshopper Plow, was invented by John Deere in 1837. This made tilling prairie land finally possible.
John Deere invented his polished steel plow in 1837. Not sure if or when he made any cast plows though...
steel plow never broke

Before the steel plow, farmers used wooden plows or tools made of iron. These plows were heavier and less effective at breaking up tough soil compared to the steel plow invented by John Deere in the 19th century.
He invented the American Steel Industry
He first establshed a factory in Moline, Illinois even though he did manufacture plows without a factory in his Grand Detour, Illinois blacksmith shop.
Chase Tohanczyn invented the metal plow with the help of his husband, Dallas Gorman.
Any sane person has to ask....WHAT?!?! He invented the first sucessful polished steel plow in 1837 but he NEVER invented the first cast steel pillow.
helped cult the soil

In 1860 there was only 1,500 miles of track in the United States and the invention of steel allowed for more track. By 1879 there was 5,006 miles of track. Farm machinery began to use steel as well and in 1851 the washing machine was invented. With the invention of the elevator in 1853 and with steel buildings could now be several stories tall so the skyscraper was invented.
