Before the electric drill , it was done by hand. There's a hand-cranked drill, probably still used by the Amish. My father owned one.
E=IR.....So, R=E/I........ E volts diveded by I amps= resistance.... You do the math...
The seed drill improved society because it took less time for the farmer to plow and plant, as it did both. Before the seed drill, he would have to plow then plant.
That will vary depending on the size of the board, number of circuit layers in the board, number of drill holes needed, if the holes must be plated through or not, cutouts or nonrectangular shape of the board, quantity price breaks available, etc.
The jackhammer is started by pushing on the handle. The inside of a jackhammer includes: a circuit of tubes, a heavy piledriver, and a drill bit at the bottom. Once the jackhammer has started air enters the jackhammer from a compressor which then passes it on to a valve on one side of the jackhammer. The pressurized air flows throughout the circuit inside of the jackhammer. A valve inside the jackhammer then closes changing the direction of the air. forcing the piledriver to rise and the drill bit to follow. In a short time the valve opens again pounding the piledriver into the drill bit and into the ground.
A soldering iron is a straight tool, sort of like a long screwdriver. A soldering gun actually looks like a gun or a drill.
As you have given NO details of the transformer, this is impossible to say.
It is highly unlikely that you can make a hole in a sixpence with a soldering iron due to the hardness of the metal. Sixpences are typically made of a durable metal alloy that would not easily melt or create a hole with a soldering iron. It would be more practical to use a drill or specialized tools for this purpose.

Yes It could be extremely dangerous to drill at that point. There is no telling where the wires from that panel go. If you drill into the hot wire from the pole, you will be electrocuted because there is no effective ground between it and the ground. It will turn you into barbecued chicken. You can turn off the circuit breakers for any other room in your house where you wish to drill and drill away. You can use an extension cord to a different room for power. Or, you can be buried next to John Wilson.
To securely hang a board on a wall, use heavy-duty wall anchors or screws that are appropriate for the weight of the board. Make sure to locate and drill into wall studs for added support. Use a level to ensure the board is straight before securing it in place.

Drill a hole through the board
Try a carbide masonary bit.
Before the electric drill, dentists used chisels, or manual drills.
