Fixed type engraved printing was troublesome primarily due to its inflexibility and labor-intensive nature. Each character had to be meticulously carved into metal or wood, making it time-consuming and costly to produce and modify texts. Additionally, errors required entire types to be remade, and the heavy, rigid nature of the materials used made adjustments difficult. This limited the speed and efficiency of the printing process compared to more flexible methods that emerged later, such as movable type.

Consistent high image quality.Offset printing produces sharp and clean images and type more easily than letterpress printing because the rubber blanket conforms to the texture of the printing surface.Quick and easy production of printing plates.Longer printing plate life than on direct litho presses because there is no direct contact between the plate and the printing surface.Properly developed plates running in conjunction with optimized inks and fountain solution may exceed run lengths of a million impressions.Cost. Offset printing is the cheapest method to produce high quality printing in commercial printing quantities.Disadvantages of offset printing compared to other printing methods include:Slightly inferior image quality compared to rotogravure or photogravure printing.Propensity for anodized aluminum printing plates to become sensitive (due to chemical oxidation) and print in non-image/background areas when developed plates are not cared for properly.Time and cost associated with producing plates and printing press setup. This makes smaller quantity printing jobs impractical. As a result, smaller printing jobs are now moving to digital offset machines.

Transfer printing is where the ink and paint is applied to an object and then the object is used to transfer the ink to the paper or material. Most printing techniques use the transfer process. You can use engraved plates, lithography, stone, lead type, etc. to transfer the ink, even a rubber roller that picks the ink up from the type sheet and puts it on the paper.

Before printing the envelope you need to go to the printer's options and select "envelope" from the drop-down media typelist. If you are using Word 2007 envelope printing it will go directly to printing without letting you confirm the printer and media type setting, using the last setting, so make sure to change it while the document is still onscreen, then "close", then do the regular "mailing" stuff. The envelope is way down the list of media type selections after "transparencies". It fixed the problem for me.
In the late 1440s Johann Gutenberg developed printing by movable type. (Printing using wood blocks and so on was already well known).Note that printing by movable type was already known in Korea. He invented the printing press in 1454.Gutenberg did not invent the printing press, the printing press he used was a modified lithography press that already existed. What he invented was movable type, which greatly sped up the process of setting up the press for printing.
