All are acceptable (for free, for nothing, gratis, free) altough for free does not seem grammatically correct.
if food, clothing, etc.. is free you don't have to pay for it. you just get the item for nothing. now when you say you're free it means that there are no restrictions on you, nothing can hold you back. you can do what ever you want. being free is a good thing!
