The denouement is the part of the story where the problems are all resolved and loose ends are tied up. An example could be the end of the movie Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, where it is revealed that there has been a huge misunderstanding between Tucker and Dale and the college kids, and that Chad's dad was actually a murderous hillbilly, not one of the murdered kids from the first massacre. Another example would be in Romeo and Juliet, when the two families see that their children have committed suicide and decide that their rivalry should be over.
Denouement is a clean end to a story in which the loose ends are tied up. An example sentence with denouement would be: I was disappointed in the denouement of the play we saw the other night, because the resolution felt very forced.
A denouement is the final outcome of the main problem or complication in a story. This is very frequently seen in mystery or detective stories in which the author concludes the story with the main character (usually a police officer, detective, or someone acting in that sort of capacity) solving the case and the narrator of the story (sometimes, but not always a colleague or friend of the main character) telling what ultimately happened to the victims and/or criminals involved in the case.
An excellent example is the conclusion of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's story 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' in which the true nature of the titular 'hound' is discovered, who used the hound to kill Sir Charles Baskerville and is threatening Sherlock Holmes' client Henry Baskerville, who Laura really is and the ultimate denouement of the story: Jack Stapleton drowning in the mires of the moor.
This politician has plenty of drama and a climax but never a denouement.
