A desk or exam copy is a copy of a textbook sent to an educator in the hope that they will "adopt" the text for their course. The book is usually free, and is sent as long as the publisher can verify that the individual requesting the book is actually in a position to adopt it for a course.

You will need to provide your name, email, the name of your school/university, the course you will be teaching, contact info for the school, and sometimes the number of students you anticipate will be in the course.
