In my opinion, yes it is. I am a red-head and I don't respond well if I know someone is calling me a ginger in a hateful or spiteful manner. Again, this is opinion, but if you're going to call a red-head a name, let it be their given one. To put this into perspective, one would probably find it offensive to call a blonde brain dead or dangerously stupid. I hate to be cliche but don't judge a book by its cover.
