Without the Grace Of God, yes. The Fall of Man occured in the Garden of Eden. On the other hand, Man is far above the Animals- as he is made in the Image of God- or Imago Dei. This, by the way is a good argument against anthropomorphic ( human-like, like Chipettes) animal Cartoons!
Can Men Triumph over Nature?
With regard to the topic that can men triumph over nature, different people have different opinions.
On the one hand, some people firmly believe that human-beings can conquer nature. They firmly believe that as long as human technology can be advanced enough,we can take some measures to improve the nature. For example, they think the human technology can be used to preventing the disasters and escaping to safety. We can build dams, dukes and reservoirs to prevent flooding and combat drought. But on the other hand, many people have opposite views.Firstly, they think we can cite numerous examples that show forces of nature are too powerful to be resisted.Secondly, they think the most natural disasters are powerful and unavoidable such as volcano eruption, tsunami, earthquake and so on.These disasters cannot be stopped even if predicted. For example, the tsunami happened in Japan caused a lot of destruction and we even don't know how to prevent it.
In my opinion,human-beings should make the nature our friend. We and nature should reach a harmonious and steady-developing point.Only if we live with the nature harmoniously can we make a happy life and have a happy ending of everybody including our descendants.
For religious figures man was made by God. However, for scientific figures, they believe that man developed from a certain type of monkey that could walk upright and started to change through the course of years and became more and more like man in present day. Many modern day religious people believe that actually the two theories work together, and aren't opposing. In terms of Christianity, it is widely believed that the seven days in which the world is said to have been created are actually metaphorical days.
Some Christians say that we are inherently evil and that only their God can make us do good things. Others say that we are not so much evil but weak and that their devil causes us to do evil and that we need help from God to defeat the devil. No matter how Christian advocates look at our nature, it always seems to lead back to the need to worship their God or face the consequences. This leaves no room for conscience or free will, in the true sense of the words.
My view is that people are not inherently evil. In our secular education, we learn that we all have a conscience that is programmed into us from early childhood. Our sense of ethics and our moral behaviour are the result of our conscience, which, in most people, acts to inhibit wrongdoing and encourage social cooperation.
