It's because a LOT of things in this world we consider MODERN tend to be trendy for the time. I.E. VHS back in the day was the modern equipment of choice..now we're like what VHS? The same can be said about DVD 2 years and ago and now it's being considered old school by Blu Ray, and High Definition Downloads.

It can relate to other things like slang terms, and fashion. I.E. the slang term Jiggy was what cool when it first came out for like 2 months..and now ppl make jokes about other ppl who may still use the word to try and relate to younger kids. As for fashion...take for instance Bootcut jeans..super trendy a couple years ago..and now it's considered old-fashioned...skinny jeans will be the same way soon.

Now as for things that were never considered MODERN...things like wearing suits, saying the word "cool"...those things have never been really TRENDY (at least not recently)..and have been old school/old fashioned for a long time, but they continue to be used forever cus they just weren't too modern to begin with.

The best way to stay with the times, it just be slightly conservative/old fashioned...a suit has never gone out of style for how many generations? there is always a new word for "cool" every couple months, but noticed how "cool" is still okay to say over how many years?
