Well, "it" is a pronoun, and therefore it has an antecedent, which means a word that it refers to. So, when you say "it," you are really referring to something else, such as the table (Johnny banged his head on it when he was playing superman earlier), or Godzilla (Help! It's going to step on him!). So, one way to use something besides "it" in a sentence is to use the antecedent instead. Use "table" or "Godzilla" rather than saying "it." Using the same word over and over again can get redundant as well, so another thing to do would be to use a different title or descriptive word rather than the antecedent to add variety. Therefore, even if you are just talking about the table, instead of saying table table table, or it it it, you could be more creative... call it the "heavy oak obstacle" or the "place that Johnny was drawn to every night around six" ... or whatever fits your writing selection.
