In book 10, 'The Emperor of Nihon-Ja', in the epilogue Will tries but fails into proposing to Alyss after a party of the Engagement of Horace and Evanlyn. She states that he has to do a whole lot better than that and walks of supposedly angry. Will stands there confused but doesn't know that Alyss was smiling.
SPOILER ALERT! DON'T READ THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SPOIL THE FIRST BOOK! The climax would have to be when Will, Rodney, Baron Arald, and Halt are fighting the Kalkara in the end of the book. It's kinda an obvious one; the action REALLY peaks! :)
If you really want to know.... *SPOILERS* Breezepelt and Jayfeather fight in the book "The Fourth Apprentice"
The 12th or 13th century in the early days of England.
The theme or central message of the book, "The Looking Glass Wars" by Frank Beddor is that Redd and her army (which is black imagination) are defeated by white imagination which is Alyss and her army. So you should be good, not evil, that good will dominate over evil.
I believe that Alice kisses Tom in the 5th book (that's not yet released in the US), not the 4th.
