Recall is to remember something by thinking or recalling i t in your mind from memory whereas recognition is to remember something in your memory through looking at something and recognising it as something seen before.

I don't know if one actually "remembers" something forgotten more than one might "realize" they forgot something. But if one can remember what it is that was forgotten, then I suppose their memory is in working condition.

Repressed memories are hard to recover, the easiest way to remember is to have someone who was there to tell you about it. If no one can help you then witnessing an event that also happened during the repressed memory could trigger the memory to return.
