They are basically asking you "what's up, my friend?" It's informal and friendly. Something like "nada mucho" (Not much) would suffice. However, leaving it at that ends the conversation and isn't very polite. So then, ask them how they are, by saying "y tu?" (And you?) or "que paso contigo?" (What's up with you?)

You could also add on an endearing term, depending on the sex of who you're speaking with (Change the articles; o, a), how close your social distance is (IE: are you close friends?) and also what country they are from (Their dialect and lexicon). Spanish speakers from Mexico (And possibly other dialects as well) may add "mi hijo/mijo", "primo" or "tio", which in literal terms mean "my son", "cousin", and "uncle" respectively, but are used between friends, like how young American boys call each other "bro." You can also use "cariño" (Affection), "hombre" (Man), "chico/chica (Boy/girl)", "chiquita" (Girly) "amigo/a" (Friend) as well.

I would probably say, "oh, nada mucho, que paso contigo, chica?" which means "oh, not too much, what's going on with you, girl?"
