Dasain may be the alternative spelling Dashain, the greatest festival of Gorkhali Hindu people who live in the hills of Nepal, Sikkim and Darjeeling of India and other parts of the world. This is taken from Sanskrit word Dashami or 10 th lunar day. In 10th lunar day of September/October (28 September in the year 2009) they celebrate it as the winning of Goddess Durga over Demons, the story of which is mentioned Hindu scriptures. During the first 9 days of Dashain festivel, they worship Durga, recite Durgasaptashati book( a book of 700 verses) and sacrifice some domestic animals (mostly He-Goat, water buffallo, chicken and ducks). On tenth day, they visit their veteran relatives to take blessings. The people of East Nepal continue to celebrate this until another five days up to Full Moon day while those of West Nepal just celebrate for the tenth day only. In Arghakhanchi and Gulmi districts, they perform Saraya Dance taking sword in their hand.
