The poem talks about the author's father who had lost his wife and cannot get over the fact that she is dead and remains in a state of shock. the word 'dead' is used metaphorically . Even the simplest of work the father is not able to do as he is sad, cannot come over the fact that she is dead, misses his wife a lot.
