well, what a trigger normally is, is basically the part of a gun where you kind of click or press and then BOOM!

But in this case (in history) a trigger is for example if you are talking about the world war, the trigger to the World War 1 was the murder of archduke franz ferdinand which basically means that the murder of the archduke franz ferdinand not started the war but led to it

if you still dont understand then i will give more information that will help better with a better example.

say if there are always lots of nice cupcakes in your house and you are not allowed to take any unless you ask your mum and you take one each day and your mum realizes that someone has taken the cupcakes each day but she doesnt know who it is and she gets more angry and more angry. then a few day or weeks or whatever later, your sister takes one and when your mum realizes one is missing she just burts and starts screaming. you are the reason to your mum screaming because if you never did it before then when your sister took one your mum wouldnt say anything but beacause you have took loads before this made your mum angrier and angrier. so your sister is the trigger beacause even though she never did anything before your mum screamed when she did it.

i hope you understand what i try to mean and if you have any questions then you can ask me below, i would love to answer! :)
