It's a largely debunked theory that men who are short feel driven to accomplish more than other men in order to "prove their worth".

Napoleon Bonaparte is commonly cited as an example. However, Napoleon wasn't actually short by the standards of his time: his height was, naturally enough, reported in French units, which makes him sound short: 5'2" in French units is about 5'6" in English units, which in 18th Century Europe was right around average height. It also didn't help that Napoleon surrounded himself with his Elite Guard, most of whom were well over six feet tall, making himself look short by comparison.
