They believed that Shiism was the correct path. It simply had to do with their personal belief, there were no political agendas behind it.
Did Esma'il make Shiisn the offical religion of the Mughal Empire
A 19th century outgrowth of Shiism that sought to reform Islam by advocating egalitarianism and by forbidding polygamy and trading in slaves.
Twelver Shiism held that there had been twelve infallible imams after Muhammad. Starting with his son-in-law Ali. The twelfth imam had gone into hiding to escape prosecution. Twelver Shiites believed he was still alive and would one day return to power and spread his true religion.
as far as i know , just in Islam religion that we have two main sects by the name of Sunnism And Shiism.
shi ism FIVE PRINCIPLES OF RELIGION AS STATED BY SHIISM INCLUDE tawhid or belief in god in divine unity, nubuwwah or prophecy.maad or resurrection, imamah or imamate, belief in the imams as successors of the prophet and adl or divine justice. shi ism practicized according to these principles. of course in the three basic principles-unity,prophecy and resurrection- sunnism and Shiism agree.
synonyms with the word shia are: partisans of imam Ali, followers of Ali. also scholars applied similar word like Shiite,Shiism , shiah.
it is more accurate in religious sciences if we apply sect instead of branches.therefore we have to say in Islam religion we have two sects, shiite as minority and Sunni as majority.Sunni and shiism are two main sects of islam religion.
* Christianity * Traditional Bantu religions * Islam * Hinduism * Judaism * Bhudism * other minority religions are practised by immigrants like Shiism, Sikhsm, Bahai etc
The most important similarity between Shiism and Sunnism is their shared belief in one God and the core tenets of Islam. The most significant difference is the disagreement over the rightful successor to Prophet Muhammad, with Shiites believing in the leadership of Ali and his descendants (Imams) while Sunnis follow the consensus of the community.
there are differences. for instance it is permissible to eat the meat of rabbit in Sunnism while this action for Shiism is forbidden. even some of them believes that among fishes , whole of them are permissible to eat if they come out of water.
first of all because shiism exists as an important historical reality within Islam and hence it must be studied as an objective religious fact. secondly the very attacks made against islam and its unity by certain western authors -who point to the Sunni-shiite division and often fail to remember the similar divisions within every other world religion-necessitate a detailed and at the same time authentic study of shiism within the total context of Islam.had not such a demand existed, it would not even have been necessary to present to the world outside Islam all the polemical arguments that have separated sunni and shiism. this is especially true at a time when many among the Sunni and Shiiste Ulama are seeking in every way possible to avoid confrontation with each other in order to safeguard the unity of Islam in a secularized world which threatens Islam from both the outside and inside.
