∙ 13y agoAn independent clause it a set of words that by themselves are a complete sentence. For example, "when i killed him." A dependent clause needs an independent clause to be a compllete sentence, thus it is 'dependent' on the other clause. "but they did not find out ", is a dependent clause. Put the two clauses together and you have a sentence: "when i killed him, they did not find out."
