Tape rule.

Yo-yo. I found a posting of a story from 1970 that said "yo-yo tape. This is Boeing slang for a six-foot roll-up tape measure." My late husband used it for any retractable metal tape measure. His background was Navy machinist, Aerospace machinist/toolmaker (for a Boeing supplier), and construction. And my 84 year old neighbor (background Navy pilot and aircraft repair, and real estate) says "everybody" calls them that.
