I had been told in my language studies that the derivation of the anglicized word "copasetic" was the Hebrew expression (transliterated) "kol beseder," meaning "all in order." Coming out of the Jewish enclaves of New York City in the late 1700s and early 1800s, it is easy to imagine New Yorkers latching onto a foreign phrase that meant everything was in order, and mispronouncing it. It caught on.
