the humour in that story was that the whale which was in the boat was not caught by any of the three men which were in the boat & they are saying Alie to everyone who are coming in the boat & in the end of the story the statue of whale fall do& everyone in the boat come to now that the whale w as not original it is the glass statue.
While not directly fish-Oriented, Steinbeck's (The Pearl) fits the category. there is a sort of carnival-mirror frisson amongst a realistic setting, it seems like it could have happened but certain things don"t add up. First of all the lead character Kino ( there is no such Spanish name!) is a fisherman, not a pearl diver, and he accidentally discovers the title object. then there is a big rush to sell it to the highest bidder, he buys himself an automatic rifle, which later figures in the story.. It is almost like the anti-capitalist tales of Maupassant and O.Henry, for a change the lead character is a male. I won"t reveal any more. it is more or less, fishy! It has a tragic outcome so is not a kiddy-friendly type of tale.
A story that is improbable, a boastful tale, a gross exaggeration, could be a big lie.
The humour turned out to be that the fish was actually made of plaster of paris and was not a stuffed trout.
A "fishy" story is one that "smells" - it's like spoiled fish and alerts you that something is wrong with the story. In other words, it's a story that really seems to be a lie.
