likely it comes from the sound of kissing

& has hypothetically very old germanic roots & known precursors like kussijanan & kuss etc

long before it ever got into Anglo saxon in the early middle ages as cyssan

meaning to kiss

& pronounced kissan

& cyssan meaning to kiss

became just kiss

in the sense of both to kiss & a kiss

by first compromising with the other old & middle English words for a kiss

which were a coss & later a cuss

& by ultimately winning out over them entirely

probably because cyssan was a verb & they were only nouns
