White Tiger Orchids
Although these come up more in the first book, they are equally present in the following 2. The white tiger orchids are described by Tally as being one of the most beautiful flowers that she has ever seen. The rangers that she meets tell her that they used to be one of the most rarest plants in the world until a Rusty figured out how to mass produce them. They now grow out of control and choke out all other plants and replace them with the orchids. The orchids are a symbol of the Pretties and how someone that beautiful used to be very rare to see until someone had the idea to make everyone look like that. Now the Pretties are spreading and trying to choke out all of the Uglies and replace them with Pretties. It is said that in the end the orchids end up killing each other, becoming victims of their own success and leave behind a wasteland. The orchids symbolize what could happen with the Pretties. That in the end they will end up destroying each other with their obsession with beauty.
