In The Boy in the Striped Pajamas Why was it such an important occasion when the Fury came to dinner?

It was so important because "The Fury" was Fathers boss. He was the head of all the soldiers and if they didn't obey "The Fury's" rules well you know he's "The Fury".

Why is there no greenery in three distance after the fence in The boy in The striped pajamas?

Because it is a concentration camp. Bruno's father is head of this camp and had to move close to it, to make sure everything was running the way it was suppose to be. This explains why they were so close to it. Concentration camps were a brutal place. It was basically a slaughter house, and it was pointless in trying to make it look appealing to the eye when the things going on inside the fence could scar you forever.

Is this supposed to be an essay or a book report? An expository essay goes into the material and you draw conclusions based on the book's assumptions, setting, theories or its use of dramatic themes. You develop a thesis, such as, The boy in the striped pajamas was a mirror by which Germans can feel the pain of a single senseless loss of life can bring and compare it to the six million Jews lost during the Holocaust. Then give three reasons from the book, explain how they support your thesis. Five sentences per paragraph, five paragraphs long. That's an essay. What you wrote is a synopsis, a summary, a book report showing you saw the movie or read the book.

What is the background of the boy in the striped pajamas?

Well, in the book a boy named Bruno lives in Berlin and is the son of a high standing SS soldier. The Feurer (Hitler) or Fury as the little boy calls him comes to visit and has dinner with his parents and this is when it is decided that the family will move to Poland to live outside the Death Camp of Auschwitz, the boy can't quite pronounce it right and calls it Out-With. The boy notices out his window all the little huts and the people in "stripped pajamas". Later on his sister tells him that they are Jews. The boy becomes terribly bored and starts to walk near the wall of the camp. He comes to a spot and sits down and he begins to see someone walking towards him. This is how he meets the boy in stripped pajamas, or shmuel. They meet almost everyday except for when it rains. They sit and talk the whole time they visit and Bruno wishes they could play. After about a year of living at Auschwitz Bruno and his sister get lice and Bruno's head is shaved. Bruno comes to notice how alike him and Shmuel look now that both of their heads are shaved, but Shmuel tells him that he can't find his father and the boys devise a plan. Bruno will come the next day and sneak under the fence and help Shmuel find his father, Shmuel will bring him stripped clothes to wear. While in the camp the two boys come upon a march and a selection. They are selected and I infer that they were taken to a gas chamber. Bruno's father begins to worry and when all hope is lost he walks the line of the fence and finds that the fence is lose in one place, where a small boy could crawl under. He also finds Bruno's clothes that he left when he changed into his stripped pajamas.
