Cause she is searching for an identity, one that is her own, to be herself rather than what others expect her to be. The dramatic transition in her life, from glitzy New York City and a life lived on scholarships to her suburb hometown in Boston, has her searching for something more. She is at a crossroads, and she doesn't know which way to choose. (see fig tree metaphor in the book) This decision eats her, and she becomes severely depressed, which leads her into her mental illness, the bell jar that covers her.

What was Queen Esther's date of birth?

A:The Book of Esther does not tell us how old Esther was when she became queen to King Ahasuerus (Xerxes), so it is not possible to say just when she was born. Historians say there never was a Queen Esther (or a Queen Vashti) of Persia, and biblical scholars say that the Book of Esther was actually a novel, written in the second century BCE, so we will never have a date of birth for Esther.

What factors components and stages of Esther Greenwood's descent into depression and madness are specified How inevitable is that descent?

In Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar there are three main components that cause Esther Greenwood to descend into her inevitable depression. First, there were the problems of patriarchy in her life that made her feel like she could never have all she wanted simply because she was a female. Second, she had to deal with the normal identity problems of growing up which was hard for her to do since she was already focused on the patriarchy problem in her life. Finally, she has a mental illness that when left untreated can have damaging effects.
