I think it is essential. English is becoming some sort of international language. But it kinda makes people cling to their ethnicity even more ,which pushes people to learn or keep their native language. Speaking other languages also allows you to get an other insight on other cultures ,and is a serious advantage in the business field.

We are fast becoming a global economy. Many Spanish speaking people are in the US. Many jobs are now requiring employees to be bilingual. The chance that you'll run into a Spanish speaking person is significant. Plus, it's well, fun! : ) I'm learning Spanish myself right now using a great program.

It's important to speak another language for the different perspective it gives you. You gain the perspective that the second langauge offers that your native language may lack. Additionally, it takes time and perseverence to learn a second language well. Perserverence and patience are good personal traits to cultivate.

Pragmatically, learning a second language lets you speak with a whole other group of people than those to which you are accustomed. People appreciate it when you can help them with their needs and wants in their own langauge. It's a tool in your bag that you can use to get the job done, a job that you couldn't do if you couldn't speak the language.

because it is easier to learn than German; it has a lot of vocabulary in common with English; because it is spoken in various parts of the world, like the province of Quebec or Carribbean islands; and when you will visit France, French people will be happy to hear you say a few words in French (they really don't mind if your grammar is not perfect.)

If you wanna stay in your own country your whole life i guess it doesnt matter but there is rarely a downside to learning a new language except that you have to study a lot. Career wise it´s always smart to be at least bilingual since people then see you as a more dedicated person and it´s soo much easier to get a job. Me myself as i speak almost 4 languages i find that it comes in very handy when you travel, everything becomes easier. Well, hope that helps ;)

The reason students should learn a second language is because you can become more fluent and it might help you with you job later in life.

If they are high school students, it is necessary for a full credit diploma, however I personally discovered a loophole that works to not take a foreign language and still get a diploma. If you are freshmen, and you do not want to take one, even just the intro to the language, contact the Call of Duty fan1 message board for more information. It worked for me, and it will work for you. :)
