It depends how fast you are travelling and what you are riding.
Many colleges and Universities have formal Equestrian programs that will teach you to become a riding instructor.

From where?
A minimum of 30 hours of dual flight training and 125 hours of ground school training are required to become a flight instructor. In order to enrol in training, one needs to hold a Private or Commercial Pilot License.
Last time I checked, to get a private license (not your instrument rating, just regular private license) is 20 hours with an instructor and 20 hours solo.
This is nowhere NEAR all of them, but here are a few: a pro rider (jumping, dressage, cross-country, racing, showing on the flat, etc.), a riding instructor, therapeutic riding instructor, equine chiropractor (funny, I know), equine massage therapist, vet, barn manager, breeder, etc. There are so many out there, I have just scratched the surface, hope it helped!!!
Depnds on the type of training. Part 61 - at least 250 hours of piloting time including 20 hours of training with an instructor and 10 hours of solo flight Part 141 then at least 120 hours of training time including 55 hours with an instructor and 10 hours of solo flight, and other requirements including several cross-country, solo, and night flights
It depends on how big the horse is or how wide its strides are. Pony= 1 step (approx) Large horse= 2/3 steps (approx) If you have riding lessons next time you ride see how many steps your riding instructor does for each horse or at least a horse approxmately the size of your horse. If your instructor (or someone good with horses) knows your horse well, try ask them.
