What kind of riding do you do? I have a Saddlebred and I ride Saddleseat and use a Mule bit http://www.melindaharllee.com/Mule%20Bit.jpg I also use a show bit https://www.saddler.co.uk/prodpics/ready/show_pelham_bi_1_large.jpg only it has 2 bits. My 2 horses are very strong and do NOT like to stop so these help. Just be sure to be gentle... they can hurt your horse like all bits can. Sassy35242 (6 years of riding experience)

What is the best type of bit for training a percheron?

Honestly the type of bit will greatly depend on the horse itself, not so much the breed. It is always best to start out with the mildest bit possible and only work up from there if the horse disrespects that particular bit or if the bit / training is causing problems.

What isthe gentalist kind of bit?

A gentle bit for a horse is usually a snaffle bit, which provides direct pressure to the corners of the mouth. This type of bit is ideal for training young or sensitive horses, as it offers a mild and non-threatening way to communicate with the horse. Gentle bits prioritize comfort and respect for the horse's mouth.

Which bit is best for your horse for cross country or fast work he leans on the bit and snatches the reins?

A snaffle bit with a double joint or a bitless bridle could be a good option for your horse during cross country or fast work. These options can provide control while being gentle on the horse's mouth, allowing for more comfort and responsiveness. It's also important to work on developing a softer connection with your horse through training and groundwork exercises to address the leaning and snatching behaviors.

What is the best bit to use for a horse that has never used one?

For horses who have been ridden in a bit less bridle for many years, the best action is to use a gentle, one piece or two piece snaffle bridle. (Do Not use a flash, grackle, or martingale on horses who have not experienced bits before.) Make sure the horse gets used to it before you get on (usually about one week). Make sure your horse can open and close it's mouth, and play with the bit. A good idea is to have "keys" attached to the bit, which encourages the horse to salivate and play with the bit.

How do you bridle train a horse?

Bridle training a horse can take a long time. You can start the horse out young however and get them used to it. While the horse is still a foal (If you have the horse while it's that young) get it used to having a leather foal halter on and lead it around gently. As the horse gets older, around a year old or so you can place a bridle (Without the bit) on it's head and begin to lead it with the bridle on. After the horse accepts this you can introduce the bit, a very gentle snaffle type bit is best, give the horse treats while it has the bit and bridle on at the same time. Again once this becomes second nature to the horse to have a bridle and bit on you can begin training the horse to follow the pressure from the bit and how to turn, move forward, and backwards. You'll need a helper for this portion of the training. Eventually the horse will accept the pressure and you will have a horse trained to the bridle.
