People first began riding horses around 4,000 to 3,500 BCE, during the early stages of horse domestication in the steppes of Central Asia, particularly in regions that are now part of modern-day Ukraine, southwest Russia, and west Kazakhstan. The Botai culture is often credited with some of the earliest evidence of horse riding, as archaeological findings suggest they used horses for both riding and as a source of food. Over time, riding spread to various cultures, significantly impacting transportation, warfare, and agriculture.
