Lots, cars were rare and there was lots of uses for horses in the trenches. Also donkeys were used and there is a very famous donkey called Samson who helped rescue many wounded and dying soldiers, and for what ever reason he wouldn't be hit by enemy bullets. Don't remember the end of that story it goes back to primary school. Yet there is a lot documented about horses in world war, in Australia returned horses were at some wharfs welcomed as heros and paraded and at other wharfs killed and piled up on their retun. Some horses nowdays are sold for higher prices if in the ww1 bloodline
