To set the timing on a 16-valve Renault Clio, first ensure that the engine is at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke for cylinder one. Align the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and camshaft sprockets, ensuring they match the specifications in the service manual. Once aligned, secure the timing belt or chain and double-check the alignment before reassembling any components. Always refer to the specific service manual for your model for detailed instructions and torque settings.

To set the valve timing on a Fiat 1.6 16-valve engine, start by aligning the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys to their respective positions as specified in the service manual. Use a timing belt tensioner tool to ensure proper tension on the timing belt after installation. Rotate the engine manually to confirm that the timing marks remain aligned, and ensure that all timing components are securely in place before reassembling the engine. Always double-check your work to prevent any timing-related issues.

Providing that you used a shop manuals info, everything should be working fine. However, if you did not set the timing marks to match before you removed the old belt (or even if it broke off) it won't start. Also, try reasing any trouble code from the computer, by disconeecting the neg bat terminal for like 10 secs. In reality you have not stated what made you replace the belt in the first place, understand. If it was that the belt broke off while driving, then I do hope you set the timing marks at the lower crankshaft and upper Camshaft. (there are marks for this). That's why its important to have the vehicles shop manual. Also, I hope you used a timing light to do the final touch. good luck.AnswerThe upper timing mark is really hard to see clean off the bearing housing behind the cam gear mark it with a whiteout pen or touchup paint then align the crank timing using the same method. As for your ground and resetting the ecu I hope you pulled ground before doing a timing belt>? Once you get the belt on turn the car over by hand twice min. Look and see if your timing marks align still. If they don't then pull the belt and do it again. It's easy to jump teeth.
if you haven't removed the belt get a very sharp Stanley knife cut off half of the belt length wise fit new belt partially then removed the rest of old belt and ease the new one fully on then it doesn't matter what you're timing marks are if you have removed the belt though it depends whether it's 8 or 16 valve let me know
