The engine is rear mounted and the boot is at the front on the older classic Beetles. The New Beetles have the engine in the front and the boot (trunk) in the back.

Because the boot would be silly at the front The old Volkswagen Beetle had a rear engine and a trunk in front, so it has been done. Apparently, putting the engine behind the wheel base can cause handling difficulties, so it's a less practical (or safe) configuration than placing the engine in front.

What year model is? If it is a 1994-2000 you can connect a car battery to jump-start points in the engine bay, and open the trunk from the trunk release button inside the car.

The brake fluid reservoir is behind the spare tire in the trunk...that would be the boot if you are a Brit. The trunk is in the front in case you hadn't noticed the motor was in the back.
The CD changer is usually in the front in the Dashboard. Sometimes some people have it fitted in the Boot or Trunk of the car.
