No, but a friend helps: the bolt and its nut have 17mm heads. Problem is, one person can't hold both wrenches.
Here is your tip for today: When you get that bolt out, take it to a welding shop and have a bolt welded to the head so it sticks out about 3/4". When you start tightening the nut onto it, the little bolt will hit the side of the transmission and you'll be able to screw the nut on by yourself. When loosening the nut, the bolt will spin around and hit the transmission...same result.
No special tool but the inner bolt is somewhat hidden behind the solenoid. Just use an extension bar on your rachet wrench.
(1) You must first remove the bracket clamp that retains the wiring harness to the trnsmission. (2) Disconnect the starter wires from the starter and that should give you the clearance you need to get a wrench on the upper starter bolt. (3) then remove the lower bolt.
Yes, there is a third bolt attaching the starter to the black support bracket on the back of the engine (use 12mm wrench)
To remove a stripped bolt using an Allen wrench, you can try using a rubber band or a piece of steel wool to create more grip between the wrench and the bolt. Alternatively, you can use a hammer to tap the Allen wrench into the bolt to create a better grip. If these methods don't work, you may need to use a bolt extractor tool to remove the bolt.
Usually I use a crescent, or adjustable wrench.
First remove the battery cables from the battery. Remove the electrical connections to the starter and label for replacement. There are 3 bolts - 13mm. The bottom bolt is also the ground terminal, therefore you will need a deep socket for that bolt. The other two are accessable ideally with about a 7" extension to your socket wrench. The top bolt is on the top of the starter and I could fit my hand up there to feel it and place the socket. The 3rd bolt is between the bottom and top bolts. Remove the 3 bolts and the starter falls right out. I replaced with a remanufactured, lifetime warranty starter from Pep Boys for about $120.
You use an impact wrench or breaker bar and spanner to remove the bolt.. a special insert is placed were the bolt was. Then a three jaw puller is used to pull the pulley off.
Nothing special, just a metric thread nut that takes a 10mm wrench or socket to remove and replace it.
Alloy wheels are typically fitted with standard Hex head bolt in the majority of cases, but with one bolt hole containing a specific "locked" wheel bolt. This bolt will usually require a special adapter for your wrench to remove. This should be supplied with the wheel/car/bolts when purchased.
I just did this job The hardest part is getting the top bolt out to remove the starter. The only way I could do it was to remove the windshield wiper motor. Removal of the motor is hard but not impossible. That gave me enough room to get a long box-end wrench on the head of the bolt and turn it out. The rest of the job is pretty straitforward
remove you battery box and right below ur intake u will see a wire running to a bolt remove that bolt and the bolt below that and you will have to go underneath the car to get the starter out
disconnect negative cable from battery. jack up car and put on stands. . starter is located right below dipstick, you will need a 14mm or 15mmbox wrench. two bolts are on the left side of the starter horizontally. one bolt attachs the battery cable and a clip hols the solenoid. remove and kragen can test the starter. replace and reconnect half inch or 12mm socket needed to disconnect the positive cable on the starter 15mm shallow socket needed for the upper bolt on the starter, a wrench, preferably a 15mm socket wrench for the lower bolt on the starter. There is a metal gasket on the starter, don't lose or damage it when you remove the old starter, you will need it for the new one, easier to insert it first before inserting the starter as opposed to trying to insert the gasket while it is on the new starter. Just replaced one of these today, cost $159 before tax Pep Boys 8/24/09, but there was a $40 core charge on top of that which will be refunded when I return the old starter, total inital charger $213 to get out of store w new starter (as opposed to rebuilt)
