First it's a 89, if the A/C never been touched it's working on r12 freon , if you need to add freon there is a leak, if the leak is there since a long time you will need to change the dryer.and youll need to do a conversion from R12 to R134a freon ( changing fitting, adding special oil, etc...) After you can add your R134a freon but i suggest you add a leak detecter too. now drive with it until you dont have cold air ( could take 1 hour or 3 month depend if it's a big leak or not) take a ultraviolet lamp , find the leak , change the defective part. refill the a/c again. Done, your acclaim now have A/C. these step need equipement only available in a car repair shop and a/c system should only be handled by qualified technician. In my opinion , repairing the A/C on your vehicle would cost more than your car current value. Hope this help
