You can try replacing the master control switch on the driver's door. If that doesn't fix it you will need a new window motor.
The u-braket that stratles the window has probably come off of one side. If you window motor and regulator still work, then the bracket has broken loose from the window. The only way to fix this is buying a new window. The u-bracket comes glued onto the window, there is no other way to fix it. I had both brackets come loose on my 2001, the brackets bolt to the window regulator. Hope this helps.
The question is too vague. Is the glass broken, does the window get stuck half way, does the window fall down, is the motion jerky, is it manual or electric?
Yes, you can fix a window leaking air by applying weatherstripping or caulking around the edges to improve energy efficiency and prevent drafts.
Before you kill yourself looking for the fuse try putting the window all the way down then back up. This may fix your window. Opening and closing the rear hatch causes the window to settle down a little and it makes the safety trigger actuate (Unknown to the driver) This prevents the rear window washer from working. You don't want your window to wash with the rear window open do you? it may not go all the way up either without lowering it first. Hope this helps.
Either way you will have to fix it again so you should fix it right the first time and bolt it tightly to the regulator like it's supposed to be.
Depends on why it wont go up. Sometimes there is a plastic tab that breaks and requires replacement of the mechanism. There is also a way to fix it that can be found on www.team3s.com as it is a common problem and someone has a detailes repair with pictures if that is the case.
Apparently after 36 years the window regulator needs some lubrication ! I removed the window and then the regulator and then lubed the whole of the regulator using a silicone spray. Fixed ! Getting the regulator and window back in the door was a whole other story.
ON MY '81, I CAN FIX IT BY ROLLING THE WINDOW TRACK ALL THE WAY DOWN AND ACCESSING THE WINDOW THROUGH THE REMOVED VENT (AT THE BACK LOWER CORNER OF THE DOOR)AND THE SPEAKER HOLE (AT THE FRONT CORNER). THE TRACK HAS A ROUND KNOB THAT MOVES THE WINDOW UP AND DOWN, AND IT'S FACING AWAY FROM YOU. THE REASON YOUR WINDOW POPS OFF IS THAT THE SQUARE PLASTIC PIECE ATTACHED TO THE ROUND KNOB HAS BROKEN OFF. GENTLY PUSH ON THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW AND MOVE THE METAL BRACKET (PART OF THE WINDOW) SO THE RECTANGULAR GAP IN THE MIDDLE IS OVER THE ROUND KNOB, AND THE SLOT IN THE METAL BRACKET IS OVER THE CHANNEL EDGE THAT THE KNOB RIDES IN. FROM NOW ON, EITHER HAVE THIS WINDOW ALL THE WAY UP OR ALL THE WAY DOWN. IT WILL FALL OFF TRACK IF IT'S PART WAY.
Your window regulator is most likely out. Try "rolling the window down" all the way, and then get out of your car and with one hand pressed flat on the outside of the window and one hand pressed flat on the inside of the window, try to force the window to go down. If it just kind of slides, then either your window regulator is out, or your window is no longer on the track. The easiest fix is obviously to take your car to Saturn (or another shop) and have them fix it. It costs about $180. Be careful though, because the plastic in Saturns for things, such as the clips and holders that hold your door on, are very cheap and will just snap off. If Saturn/another auto shop breaks it, they have to fix it or replace it. Otherwise, buy a Hanes (or similar) manual and learn how to do it yourself. Basically, you unscrew all the screws that you can see and pull the door off. The manual will tell you what all exactly you're looking at.
on these doors there are cable regulators which wind up when you roll the window up and wind down when you roll the window down. most of these cables get tangled and bound up. the easy way to fix this problem is to get a new window regulator, but not from the VW dealer ist $260, each door. Autopartsonlinecanada.com is the cheapist place to find the regulator for $63. Hope this helps
Make sure the window is all the way up. If you think it is, lower the window all the way then raise it all the way. Then try the wiper and fluid delivery system. Well Done. This worked perfectly for me.
