All BMW's require a special tool to reset the Oil & Service (Inspection) indicators. The best one out there is the Peake R5 from www.peakeresearch.com. They are a bit pricey, but if your a do-it-your-selfer like me, it's a worthwhile investment!
Some may tell you that it can be done by pressing and holding buttons while turning the key to position 1, but it won't work!
Disconnect your battery, and leave it disconnected for at least 24 hours. The battery backup on the computer will die after 24 hours, at that point, the service engine indicator is reset.
Ground out the # 7 pin in the data connector for 5 seconds. With the key in the acc position. Ground it out for 10 seconds to reset service light. BE SURE ITS THE RIGHT PIN. there numbered. EchoSai
Turn Key to position 1, hold in trip odometer reset while turning key to position 2. Hold down until service reminder starts flashing, then release odometer reset.

To reset the service indicator on 1998 Mercedes Benz C200 . Turn the ignition key to position 2 and press the 0 on the left of the cluster twice. Then turn the key to position 0 Then press and hold the 0 button on the left of the cluster whilst turning the key to position 2. Continue holding the 0 button until you hear a signal or beep. Release the 0 button after you hear the beep. Service indicator will then reset.

Either use a scan tool or unhook the battery for a minute.

hold milage reset button in and switch on ignition.hold for about 5 seconds and it will reset.
I reset the check engine light on my jeep by disconnecting it from the battery.
